2K Toner is a specially formulated two pack coating ideally suited for the automotive refinish trade, giving exceptional gloss, durability and O.E. appearance. 2K Toner should be applied by spray application on surfaces that are well prepared and free from rust, grease and dust.
Mixing:
The base should be thoroughly stirred and mixed in a proportion of 2 parts base (colour) to 1 part hardener by volume and thinned with a recommended thinner to a viscosity suited to the type of spray equipment used. Once mixed with hardener, the product has a limited pot life and should not be returned to the original containers. Both base and hardener are flammable materials and appropriate care should be taken during storage and use.
Basecoats are specially formulated products to achieve OEM RESULTS.
Application:
By conventional spray apply 2 - 3 coats of basecoat to completely obliterate substrate (5 minutes flash off between coats) resulting in a dry film thickness of 20-40 microns. Care must be taken to avoid dry spray. 2K Top Clearcoat should then be applied following ±15 minutes flash off time of the final basecoat application.
Thinning:
The basecoat should be thinned ±40% with the basecoat thinner prior to spraying (i.e. an application viscosity of 14-16 seconds through No.4 cup (FORD) at 25°C). Lacquer thinners not recommended as loss of pigment and change of colour will occur.
Liquid and vapours are flammable. Keep away from heat, sparks, open flame and other possible sources of ignition. Harmful by inhalation and in contact with skin. May cause sensitization by inhalation. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advise.
Allergic persons and especially those prone to asthma and other respiratory ailments may react adversely when exposed to isocyanate containing vapours or spray. This reaction may be immediate or delayed, with symptoms commencing six to eight hours after exposure. Isocyanates are also irritants to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Spray painting should be carried out under down-draught exhaust conditions with use of air supplied respirator properly maintained. Dust respirators offer no protection against isocyanates because of their limited effective life. Cover container with cloth when opening. When mixing, impervious gloves and face shield should be worn. Always work with adequate ventilation.
Keep out of reach of children.
If breathing is effected remove to fresh air. If swallowed DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING, give water. In case of eye contact flush copiously with water.
Wash skin with soap and water or hand cleaner – do not use solvent. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before re-use.
All persons who display symptoms of isocyanate exposure should be referred for medical advice.
